What does KEEN do?

KEEN is a youth-led organisation which aims to create inclusive projects, support and promote inclusion across the UK so that everyone has an equal opportunity of being embraced in their communities. Kofi Annan once said, “Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace.” KEEN offers opportunities for adults and young people likewise to take part in fun activities while bolstering a change in attitudes and perceptions towards disability, making the present and the future a more inclusive place for everyone.

How can you get involved? (even during COVID-19!)

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, KEEN launched ‘Virtual KEEN’ in March 2020 where volunteers can sign up to a wide selection of activities including, but not limited to, INK drawing workshop, Drama sessions with the Oxford Playhouse, KEEN Choir, Storytime, yoga and their very own KEENs Got Talent! Participants meet up weekly via Zoom to engage in these exciting activities, volunteers can help sessions run smoothly and have fun with everyone else as well! There’s something for everyone to enjoy for people of all ages and from all different backgrounds.

Young People at the Forefront of Change

For young people aged 16 or above, you can sign up to be a Community Buddy in order to make a positive difference in another person’s life! For young people who are looking to develop a wide range of skills such as communication, leadership, fundraising and many more skills that are essential in the modern society, the Young Leaders Programme may be of interest. The Young Leaders Programme encompasses four key aspects: recruitment, leadership, fundraising and a personal project. Each young leader will be in charge or recruiting 10 new volunteers to help out at KEEN, lead a session of their own choice, fundraise using innovative ideas to reach a £100 goal and be able to lead their own project (for example publicising the work KEEN does with a local newspaper or blog). KEEN offers lots of opportunities for people who are looking to make a positive difference in their community and also to enhance CVs!
