How to Start A #ShareOneWorld Project
Now you’ve taken the #ShareOneWorld pledge, it’s time to start thinking about the next steps you can take to honour your pledge. The best way to achieve this is through a #ShareOneWorld Project!
This post will take you through a potential process of contriving a project from start to finish. Hopefully, it will serve as a useful guide for you to ensure that you navigate through your project smoothly and successfully!
Step 1: Find some inspiration
You can have a look at our list of example projects here. Of course, you can venture beyond this page and actively look for and explore ideas with other #ShareOneWorld pledge makers. With a dedicated #ShareOneWorld Facebook group, this can be a secure space for pledge makers to share their stories, get to know each other and even collaborate on projects!
KEEN itself also runs other projects besides #ShareOneWorld throughout the year. Have a look through our “What We Do” section to find out about our latest campaigns. If one catches your eye, think about how you can contribute to the operation through an SOW project.
Our latest projects, #CodeforInclusion and various online sessions can be wonderful starting points for your brainstorming. We are also looking towards expanding to helping local businesses recover from COVID-19 with inclusion at the forefront - if this opportunity appeals to you, stay tuned to our news page for the launch of this scheme!
Step 2: Plan out your project
Having a visualisation of the scope of your project can help orientate you in the right direction. We have provided a template that you can use to help plan your project, but feel free construct your project plan in any way. From mind maps to lists and timelines, whichever format is the clearest for you!
Within your plan, it is important that you define several elements:
How does your project help promote inclusion?
How long will it take for you to execute?
Who will you be working with? - Keen can help you with contacting organisations and individuals if needed.
What is the outcome of your project? - It is important to have a defined conclusion for your project for you to know when it would be ready to be submitted.
Step 3: Submit your project proposal form.
Now that you have a project plan, the proposal form should take no more than five minutes for you to fill out. Follow this link to submit your form once you’re ready.
Step 4: Start your project!
Now we have all the planning out of the way, it’s time for your project to come to life! This may be the daunting part for most, but don’t fret - KEEN staff are always available to help you with any problems you may encounter. Don’t forget to utilise resources that may be available around you too - this can be school counsellors, your tutor, or even family and friends! It never hurts to ask others for help in executing your project.
In fact, you may inspire others around you to take the #ShareOneWorld pledge too - isn’t it exciting to see others become motivated to propagate a movement because of your efforts?
When a friend signs up to #ShareOneWorld following your recommendation, they can point you out as their referee in their pledge - this will enter both of you into a lucky draw to win a secret prize for two, to be announced at the end of the year. Go forth and spread the word of #ShareOneWorld, and the mystery reward may fall into your hands!
Step 5: Measure the impact of your project.
It’s important to keep track of project milestones. Remember the plan that we wrote at the beginning of this whole thing? It’s time for it to take the spotlight again! Check off every key stage of your project to keep yourself motivated and accountable for finishing the project in time for our “Champions for Inclusions” Awards, our end-of-year ceremony to acknowledge our pledge makers and most unique projects.
If your project is community-based, talk to those whom you're helping about the positives they gained from your help and how their lives have improved. Ask them for their advice about what else you can do to further advance your project!
For more technical projects, make sure that you have set dates where you will accomplish a vital element of your project. For example, have you collected all the funding that you’d need to build a ramp? Have you established a time and team dedicated to constructing it with you?
Having small goals before reaching your final objective will ensure that you stay on track and that your project will be as impactful as possible!
Step 6: Submit your project.
Once you have finished your project, you can submit it here. You will find a Google Form guiding you through the upload of appropriate reflections and evidence regarding the aims, process and impact of your project.
