Call for volunteers in Plymouth!
We are looking for volunteers who live in Plymouth to join our team and help promote inclusion throughout the city and the wider South West.
10% of Plymouth’s population report that they have a disability which limits their day-to-day activity a lot. This is nearly 2% higher than the average for England. In total, 31,164 people in Plymouth live with a disability or long-term health condition.
Despite the fact that Plymouth has a large disabled community, only 14% of people in Plymouth who live with a disability say that they are a part of a community group or take part in community activities. When surveyed, young people in Plymouth reported that they think disability causes social isolation.
Here at KEEN we think this needs to change.
We are looking for young people in Plymouth to become #ShareOneWorld Ambassadors in order to help us create a more inclusive world for people living with disabilities and long-term health conditions.
KEEN’s new #ShareOneWorld Ambassador Programme offers training to people aged between 18 and 25 so that they can go into local schools to give assemblies on inclusion and disability. These assemblies will help local children to understand what ‘inclusion’ means and think about how inclusive their local community is.
If you sign up to become a #ShareOneWorld Ambassador, you will have an opportunity to play a key role in inspiring local school children to become #ShareOneWorld pledge-makers. As pledge-makers, these school children will then be prepared to design and carry out their own projects to promote inclusion in Plymouth and throughout the South West.
You can find out more information and sign up to the #ShareOneWorld Ambassador Programme by visiting www.keenuk.org/sow-ambassadors
If you passionately believe in promoting inclusion and have time to devote to a rapidly developing charity, you could even consider setting up a dedicated KEEN UK branch in Plymouth. For more information visit www.keenuk.org/starting-a-new-branch
