My Micro-Internship experience
I have thoroughly enjoyed my micro-internship at KEEN this week. I applied for this internship because I believe that it is essential to promote inclusion within society. In this challenging time of isolation it is more important than ever for children and adults with additional needs to keep creative, active and connected. Having heard about the excellent work performed by KEEN I wanted to have the opportunity to contribute.
My project involved KEEN members submitting photos of a creative skill they have developed through attending KEEN’s projects. Throughout this week I received some amazing submissions showcasing their creative skills (which can be viewed on the Creative KEEN Submission blog post). I used these photos to create an inspiring calendar for 2021 and T-shirts, which display KEEN members talents and their reliance during lockdown. All the money raised from selling these products will go towards the continuing cost of sending weekly letters to over 70 members who haven’t been able to participate in KEEN’s daily zoom activities.
This experience has been very rewarding and enlightening and I would definitely recommend applying for a micro-internship at KEEN. From a personal perspective it has helped develop my IT skills, being able to apply this knowledge to a working project is a great transferable skill for future employment. During the past five days I managed to complete my project and produce work that I am proud of. The KEEN team provided amazing support by setting clear and achievable goals to help guide our projects.
While working remotely brought about certain challenges, the KEEN team did an excellent job of making sure we stayed connected through regular zoom calls, in depth feedback and allowing us to share our progress with other interns.
Thank you for providing me with such an amazing opportunity.
