My Micro-Internship Experience!

My name is Maya Blanco, and I am currently studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford. I was very excited to join the Micro-internship program when they accepted my application in early November, and I can now say that my excitement was justified.

Throughout my week, I had three main objectives to work on with my team:

1. To advertise the new the National Directors Committee and #SOW team positions

2. Email Universities and Volunteering sites about unique opportunities available

3. Start a Branch-out campaign across the UK

There was never a dull moment in our whole week. Rupert da Silva, who was in charge of our team, ensured that we were always kept busy and that the work was varied. Whether it was designing a new logo, creating media posts, sending off emails or learning how to work on Squarespace, there was always something for everyone to do.

I would have to say that one of my favourite parts was designing the new logo for the Branch-out campaign. Coming from a Humanities background, I never really had the chance to engage with graphic design. As a result, I felt challenged by the task, but that it was also achievable. After showing my logo design to Rupert, he was delighted with the product, and I can definitely say that my artistic skills improved.

I would definitely encourage any student to apply to work with KEEN. Not only do you gain essential skills such as organisation, teamwork and leadership, but you also feel that you are making a positive contribution. Many work experiences look good on your CV, but working for a charity also has the benefit of improving your community.
