My Micro-Internship Experience!
My name is Siddiq Islam and I am studying maths at the University of Oxford. This week I completed an internship at KEEN!
I hadn’t given much thought to inclusion before this week, but KEEN has inspired me to change how I think, after seeing how driven it is to change the way the country views disability. The team clearly has a passion for its work and is well organised in order to progress its aims.
KEEN has a range of active projects and opportunities, and we have spent our week developing and promoting these as a team of interns. Being able to work on a variety of tasks has kept the program engaging and tested many different skills. Working with the other interns in my team (Elisa, Sarah and Maya) and liaising with our supervisor (Roo) required communication and coordination. Creating content for KEEN’s website and social media outlets required technological and writing skills. As the week progressed, it was great to become familiar with the software tools KEEN uses for graphic design, web page creation, advertisement and administration.
The positive experience I had this week has prompted me to reconsider the not-for-profit sector, and I encourage others to try an internship at KEEN if they too would like to experience working with a pleasant and vigorous charity!
